Prof. Dr. Peter Vink
Professor at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at the TU-Delft
Dr. Peter Vink is professor at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at the TU-Delft. His work concerns environmental design. From 2015-2021 he was head of the department Sustainable Design Engineering at this faculty, where he did lead a group of 110 researchers and teachers. He did write more than 250 papers and books in the field of comfort, performance and design of interiors. His latest book is ‘seat comfort and design’ (Pumbo, 2023), which is a follow up of ‘aircraft interior comfort and design’ co-authored by Klaus Brauer, one of the leading designers of the Boeing 787 interior (CRC Press, Boca Raton, 2011). Peter Vink received his PhD degree in 1989 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Leiden in the field of biomechanics. He is in the editorial board of scientific journals (e.g. Applied Ergonomics and Work), chaired the jury of the Crystal Cabin Award for three years (the most prestigious prize in aircraft interiors) and won the Hal W Hendrick Award in 2011, which is for a non-U.S. citizen who has made outstanding contributions to the human factors/ergonomics field. Peter is on the editorial board of several journals.
Peter Vink is the “2nd most published author in Applied Ergonomics (Lifetime)”. Applied Ergonomics is the Q1 journal in his field. Peter guided more than 25 PhD students and is still guiding 5 PhD students. Peter Vink gave more than 50 keynotes worldwide and in 2024 Peter Vink was chosen as teacher of the year of the master education. He won this price 4x earlier. In 2022 Peter Vink’ s students won the Crystal Cabin Award, which is the most prestigious prize in aircraft interiors. In 2023 Peter Vink received the official royal distinction (he was made an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his research on developing new products and environments with a proven effect on comfort, performance and health.
