Prof. Dr. Mark Boocock

Dr. Mark Boocock is a Professor and Director of the Ergonomics and Human Factors Research Group at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand. Mark has over 30 years’ experience in occupational biomechanics, and the prevention and management of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. He joined AUT from the Health and Safety Laboratory in the UK (an agency of the Health and Safety Executive) where he worked as a senior research scientist in the field of ergonomics and was the UK representative on International (ISO) and European (CEN) Safety Standards on manual handling, human physical strength and working postures. In New Zealand, he has served as an advisor to the Accident Compensation Corporation’s (ACC) Workplace Injury Prevention Strategy Programme and was the lead researcher on the writing of the revised New Zealand guidelines on working with computers. He is currently working with researchers from The Netherlands (Work and Health, TNO) and Khon Kaen University in Thailand. Mark is the New Zealand National Secretary for the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), certified member of the UK Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF), and a registered European Ergonomist. He is a past President of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of New Zealand (HFESNZ) and has published over 100 journal articles or book chapters and presented at over 140 conferences.
