Prof. Dr. Seong-Kyu Kang
President of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH)
Professor Seong-Kyu Kang is an occupational physician and epidemiologist. He is the President of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH, www.icohweb.org) from 2022. He holds the positions of Dean of the Graduate School of Public Health, and Chair of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the College of Medicine and Gil Medical Center, Gachon University, located in Incheon, Republic of Korea. He serves as the non-executive Vice President of the Korea Industrial Health Association (KIHA).
Professor Kang recently served as the Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee of the Economy, Social & Labor Council under the Presidential Office and facilitated an agreement among employees, employers, and the government to prevent serious accidents. He is a fellow of the Collegium Ramazzini and has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Safety and Health at Work (SH@W, www.e-shaw.net) since 2010. The journal is indexed in SCIE/SSCI with an Impact Factor of 3.0 in 2022. He has served as Vice President and a member of the Board of ICOH since 2009 and served as a member of Board and Editor-in-Chief of the Newsletter.
Professor Kang previously held positions at the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), including Vice President of Technology, Director General of the Seoul Regional Office, and Director General of the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute (OSHRI). He was the member of the Advisory Committee of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health. He also served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) fellow at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) and was assigned to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). He played a key role in organizing the 31st ICOH Congress held in Seoul in 2015.
Professor Kang completed his medical education at the College of Medicine, ChungNam National University in Daejeon, and underwent residency training in Family Medicine at Yonsei University Severance Hospital in Seoul, Republic of Korea
